Baby Violet – Albury.
Let me just start by saying HOME BIRTH-WOW! On Tuesday 6th October, we welcomed our beautiful daughter into this world and I can honestly say I have never felt more empowered, fiercely protected, overwhelmingly loved and safe.
My labour began at 11pm on Monday 5th October (Reegan’s Birthday) with mild contractions and by midnight I was sure ‘this was it.’ It was then I took great pleasure in telling Reegan that he would meet his daughter today.
My dream team (Claire @yourbirthmidwifery & Louise – midwives, Doula Lou) were called at 3:30am. Doula Lou arrived first and was heavenly in the way she provided comfort and reassurance to both myself and Reegan. The midwives arrived just in time with less than an hour to spare before Violet made her way ‘swimming’ into this world. Violet was Earth-side at 7:03am, extremely alert and ready to take on the world.
A home birth allowed me to be surrounded by the people whom I loved and felt secure with. I was able to let go of any fear associated with pain or the unknown. I trusted my body to do what it needed to do, and even had a goal of not ‘pushing’ and experiencing the Fetal Ejection Reflex. A part from a couple of laughs mid-contraction which really squeezed her head down and out, I simply felt release of pressure with each breath and contraction (no pushing necessary), she was coming whether I pushed or not. Throughout my time labouring, I felt everything, I could feel her descending and my contractions building but I did NOT feel unbearable pain or discomfort, just love and excitement to meet our little girl and not be pregnant anymore (I could not wait to get into bed without a baby in my belly.)
I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy, 8lb 8oz baby girl in my own bath tub, without the need for any pain relief or intervention, all while talking, laughing and eating chocolate. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience such a monumental moment in the comfort of my own home with those closest to me and I can’t thank my dream team enough for the ongoing support before, during and after.
