Kylie and Ryleigh.

In early 2019, Kylie and I sat side by side in doula training, both stepping into this work with open hearts and curiosity. Years later, I’ve had the honour of walking beside her as her doula, and what a full circle moment it was. 

Supporting Kylie felt like supporting a sister. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much with a family during their journey. It was SO fun. Even in the more serious moments, there was so much joy, warmth and honesty in every interaction.

I was invited into their world, learning about their faith, hearing worship music and witnessing the strength and tenderness they both carry. Her husband, Ryleigh, brought so much insight and thoughtfulness to the experience. Learning about his view of the world was a gift and I feel grateful to know them as individuals. Their connection, communication and devotion to one another was something really very special to witness.

After an IVF journey and a birth that didn’t unfold exactly as planned, Kylie approached her mother-led induction with such grounded strength and trust in herself. She was calling the shots. They were also supported by an incredible MGP midwife whose woman-centred care made such a difference for this family.

And then came the labour… The fastest I’ve ever supported. Just 36 minutes of active labour according to the medical notes. Intense, powerful and absolutely epic. They welcomed their beautiful son, Malachi, earthside at 37+4 weeks, so deeply loved and long awaited.

Some families leave a permanent imprint on your heart and this is certainly one of them. I’m so grateful our paths have crossed in so many different seasons of life.
