Birth Photographer of the Year Awards 2025.

I recently stepped way outside my comfort zone and entered the BPOTY Awards. It came with plenty of anxiety and a big dose of imposter syndrome, but I showed up anyway. In previous years I had thought “Maybe one day I’ll be good enough, maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to enter.”

Why do I offer birth photography? Because I’m passionate about honouring women’s stories. Capturing their beauty, their strength and reflecting it right back to them.

All five of the images I entered received awards.

• Ying and Yang. Balance, Unity, the Darkness and the Light – Silver Distinction Award.
• The Heroine of Her-Story – Silver Distinction Award.
• Team, Effort – Silver Award.
• Water World – Silver Award.
• Details of Her Determination – Silver Award.
• Top 20.

The live Judging happened on YouTube over the course of about 30 continuous hours – 356 entries from across Europe including Poland, UK, Netherlands, Germany, plus the US, France, Canada, South Africa, Dubai, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and other South American Countries. 

More than the number and scores, the feedback was so valuable and appreciated. The panel saw the storytelling and there was 1 judge for every one of my images who “got it.” One comment was “This is a piece of Art” and asked for a gold award from the other judges. This comment made me a blubbering mess. I see and believe that Women are a work of Art. And pregnancy, labour, birth and motherhood is the most profound form of creative expression there is.

I’m honoured, grateful, proud of myself and the women in these image and deeply humbled for entering. I’m going to just take a moment to acknowledge that image 2 and 4 were taken while I was babywearing Forrest at 5 months old. Doula, photographer and mother all at the same time.

Walking alongside women as they transform is one of the greatest privileges of my life. I promise to keep evolving, growing and showing up – for them and for myself.

So this is me, being seen, being witnessed.
My art, my expression, my vulnerability and my soul. These are the women and families I support. I fall in love with every woman I support and I hope you can feel and see this in the images I capture.
